Early bird

Slept at 9 yesterday, didn’t have much good sleep. Woke up at 4 to wait for the sunrise.

But I am not at the best viewing direction. Returned to the stopover and finished my bread from yesterday. With my discovery of a power plug outside, I didn’t need to stay in a hostel tonight at Shizuoka. At the time of writing, I am now charging my GPS and expect to start at 6.

Passing thought a shipyard. The bread wasn’t enough for my appetite and I kept looking for convenience store on my way. That’s why I forgot to turn my GPS on.

Brought some milk and bread again. Leaving some bread for the road. This Famiymart provide seat and power plug for customers and it is the best convenience store in my whole trip.

The good thing about starting early is that there is no car on the road, you get your own private cycle lane. There were even no people on the street so early

It this tori is at some sightseeing spot it would have been very famous by now. But in the middle of nowhere? I guess someone like me would stop for a look.

Arrived Hamamatsu before 8. Hamamatsu is one of the large city between Nagoya and Shizuoka. I have 13 hours day light for cycling today, which mean if I bike at 10km/h, I can ride 130km today! I have no reason to be hurry.

Some view on my way.

Refueling at Fukuroi station (I ran on water). There should be some famous Tokaido site around the station, but Google helped me to avoid them efficiently.

Cycling on river side again.

When I was touring Japan last time, I bought myself a 2L sport drink. The design of the 2L bottle is a perfect match for my back rack and I would like to bring another one to Europe, so I was looking for supermarket alone my ride.

And this is where the accident happened, I didn’t notice the bump when I was too excited to find the supermarket. Then I was thrown away from my bike. Luckily me and my bike are safe.

Reaching Kakegawa stopover at 11, it seemed that yesterday sleep was catching up on me and I was only doing 55km in 5 hours.

With all the time in the world, I had my lunch and rested until noon.

I didn’t expect a climb today, but it was a great view on top with all the tea garden.

Another view of the city.

Fish Flag of Japan.

As a city famous for tea, they have a cartoon character for tea too!

The power plug this morning turns out to be a common feature outside any convenience store. It feel like finding a save point when playing RPG. I ate another ice pop when the GPS was charging.

It was too early to reach my destination today at 3. It was also too small and don’t have a 24 hours restroom.

There were 3 plans by then:
A, wait and sleep here tonight
B, reward myself with a night at Shizuoka
C, ride to the next stopover

As the second and third option both means a ride to Shizuoka, I started moving.
I had a brilliant idea on my way to Shizuoka. Instead of staying in a hotel at Shizuoka, I should stay in the onsen hotel at Hakone tomorrow. So I rode to the next stopover at Fuji city.

This was where the giant 1:1 scale Gundam on displayed a few years ago, and it was the Bandai showroom nearby. As it was going dark in 2 hours, I didn’t have time to fool around.

I turned off the route recording for saving some battery for my GPS. But I still have to recharge for sugar in a convenience store.

Pacific cycling lane, with Pacific Ocean on your right. It was a joy to ride but I was worrying about the time.

I took a wrong shortcut to a little hill town. A cat is yawning at me.

In the last 10km my mind is in blank. At the last station before the stopover, I bought my dinner as I expected everything will be closed when I arrive.

Fuii river, Fuiji city and Mt. Fuji at the same photo.

Reached there by 7, rode from sunrise to sunset.

I was sleeping in the toilet for the tonight. It is clean and you can lock the door inside. It is like what you can find in a detective story plot. I rode over 140km today and I was done.
